About the author...

Tobias Künkel (born in 1975) studied media information science from 1996 to 2000 at the University of Applied Sciences in Dresden [1]. During his studies he acquired an extensive knowledge of professional A/V technology and production, which lead to his initiation of and collaboration in the TV project "035eins" from 1998 to 2000 (editing, production, graphics) [2]. In addition, Tobias Künkel worked in the TV department of an international advertising agency and engaged in some freelance work in the area of Compositing during this time period. His profound interest in streaming media began in 1998 [3].

In the year 2000, Tobias Künkel was employed by an independent media house for the technical management of the streaming media division. Here he was involved in the conception and operation of an AV-streaming platform, development of workflows for content generation, the realization of front-end implementations, and evaluation of relevant technologies [4] [5] [6]. In addition, he managed the production of approx. 30 livecasts and the largest regularly appearing web event in Germany [7].

In June 2001 Tobias Künkel published the manual "Streaming Media in der Praxis" (Media Streaming in Practice) in conjunction with the publishers Addison-Wesley Germany [8], which will be released in England and the USA in April 2003 [9].

In 2002 Mr. Künkel became self-employed as a media information scientist specializing in the area of streaming media. Alongside production, he is also engaged in instructing courses on streaming media [10] and business consulting [11]. Read more
